Baptism, Salvation

Full immersion Baptism and the infilling of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues: Is for all who who believe

Written and compiled by Melissa Rose Breusch

Can everyone who believes receive the Holy Ghost. Answer: Yes, however will everyone yield to the Lord to receive His Spirit….No.
So the Holy Ghost is for everyone that believes…that is every believer in Christ on this planet.
Luke 11:13 – If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

So, we have to ask for the Spirit.
This is proactive on the part of the believer.
John 7:39 – (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified .)

So we see belief is required in receiving the Holy Spirit and should be received, but not every believer will receive due repentance issues or because of not believing (See Acts 2: 38).
Is the Holy Ghost a requirement for salvation. Short answer: YES

John 3:5 – Jesus answered , Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Water here represents being baptized in physical water by full immersion and Spirit here means being born of; that is renewed by His Spirit). This is the born again experience.
Luke 3:16 – John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose : he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

Here we see John the Baptist talking of when the Holy Ghost would come and with fire. This scripture is fulfilled in Acts 2:38, but in order to get a handle on this we need to go back to Isaiah and Joel.

Isaiah 28:11 – For with stammering lips and another tongue will I (He) speak to this people.

In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. –  1 Corinthians 14: 21

Joel 2:28 – And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy , your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

Joel 2:29 – And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

This is also a reference to Acts 2:17 – 18. Whether you are the children of Israel or a bondwoman (handmaiden) you could receive the Holy Spirit then and now. The difference between the Holy Ghost coming to a person in the Old Testament and the New is that tongues and the interpretation of tongues was not given as gift in the Old and their is no record in the Bible of the Holy Ghost filling or coming upon the Gentiles (unbelievers) in the Old Testament.

Acts 2:4 – And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

So hear we also see the prophetic coming true of Isaiah 28:11. As tongues was the sign under the New Covenant that you were filled with the Holy Ghost.

Acts 1:5 – For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

I just got done giving the verse that is in Luke 3:16 on how the the Lord would baptize us with the Holy Ghost and fire.

Acts 2:1 – And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Acts 2:2 – And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Acts 2:3 – And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Acts 2:4 – And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Once again we see how the Holy Ghost came. Cloven in the Greek (which is the original language the New Testament was written in) simply means divided. As the divided tongues sat upon each person present they began to speak with tongues. Once again tongues is shown as being the sign someone is filled with the Holy Ghost.

Acts 10:44 – While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

Acts 10:45 – And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 10:46 – For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

Acts 10:47 – Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

Acts 10:48 – And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

(You may read the whole chapter for yourself.) Verses 45 and 46 are key to understanding that those who believed were astonished the scripture says; then it says for they heard them speak with tongues. Tongues is the initial (first) sign to know if someone has been filled with the Holy Ghost.

Some may sight Mary, Elizabeth, John the Baptist, and Zachariah as those who were filled with Holy Ghost without speaking in tongues. However, this was under the Old Covenant. The prophecy concerning tongues had not yet been fulfilled and wouldn’t be until the day of Pentecost. All the gifts functioned under the Old Covenant accept tongues and interpretation of tongues.

Here is how we know we are part of Christ or not, His Kingdom or not, or born again with His Spirit.

Jesus is the Holy Ghost and this is  (because He was in human form at that time) had to go away (see John 14).

Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

We know from the day of Pentecost the tongues was the first sign that someone was filled with the Holy Ghost so if you do not see this sign manifest you are not Christ’s.

Philippians 1:19 – For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

Again the Holy Spirit is Jesus Christ.

It is so vital for believer to receive the Spirit of the Lord this way as the Word mentions. This is not to put undue pressure on a believer, but to impress upon and encourage them to seek for the Holy Ghost and be filled so that can be endued with power from on high. It is to quench all the fiery darts of the enemy, to move in other gifts of the Spirit for the edifying of the body and setting those bound by satan free, and to help you in living a holy acceptable blameless life that you may endure until the end and might obtain salvation.
